Hawaii

Been busy and have found out I am on my way to Hawaii for a year. Anyone here know of the spearfishing grounds around the islands? I hope to get some trigger time when work allows. I wanted to see if bringing the gun would be a good idea. I have been over a few times and most of the dive spots I hit were barren of anything shootable. It is a big island chain though.

I'm sure Stodelle will chime in on this thread. He was a recent a So Cal local hunter.

DFC,

Give a call to the guys at Hana Pa'a Dive Shop (I think it's (808) 843-8182). It's one of the only shops that focuses on spearfishing, and all of the guys that work there are extremely knowledgeable.

Of course, the link that Vaquero attached is an awesome resource. Try to link up with some local divers and learn the tricks.

I lived out there for about 4 years, and the diving is awesome, especially this time of year.

Have fun.

Which Island are you going to be on? I'm a freediver and I live on Oahu, I believe Stodelle lives on Maui. Like Vaquero posted, check the hawaiiskindiver site and forum. Just put out a post for a dive partner and I'm sure at least one of the members will respond to you.

YO DFC

What island are you going to? I'm sure it'll be Oahu or Hawaii. Lots of good spearfishing here. You are right, there isn't much to look at at times, but its these barren times that get the fish cocky. the other day outside Kahoolawe 9the old navy bombing island) a buddy got a 115# tuna. Took a 12# ono the other day.

Definitely bring the gun. You won't be sorry. Oahu is pretty fished over, but if you come to Maui, let me know and we'll hook up. PM me when you get over.
