I've just recently started to spearfish with my cousin. We live in North Port and know a couple of spots to spear, but we are looking for more decent spots to spear around Venice, FL. We don't have a boat, (Working on it though!) so we are looking for shore diving locations. If anyone knows some spots we should check out, please enlighten us! I don't want anyone's honey holes, just some spots to start us out spearing.
P.S. if anyone is looking for another person to go out diving around the Venice area, I'd love to go! Thanks! |

The culverts are a good spot. Go to service club park, take the boardwalk to the beach. From the boardwalk take a heading of 250 degrees for about 400 yrds. 20-23 fsw. It's a long swim so manage your air carefully, use a yak or dive doubles.

Awesome! We went there yesterday, but the viz was pretty poor. We didn't even bother going past 120 yards. Thanks for the exact location. We were swimming aimlessly yesterday. What kind of fish do you run into out there? Does anyone else have any good shore diving spots?

Re: Shore Diving Around Venice, Fl
I have spotted gag and red grouper, hogfish, big sheephead, snook on a couple of occasions cobia and a couple of big goliath grouper. It is a popular site so fish quality varies....fall and winter are best(if you're harty enough). The blocks at South Brohard and Spanish Rocks are also good/fair spots. You can do a search for info on both.

Once again, thanks a lot! Can't wait for the viz to clear up again.
