Laguna Report

Dove North laguna with two of my friends. Visibility was ridiculous, maybe too good because the fish could you see you also. I saw tons of small female sheeps with only two 3-4lb males. No sight of the reef master. Took my beginner friend out so i did not get a chance to dive as hard as i wanted. I took a long shot on a nice calico and my spear literally bounced off him. I definitely need to sharpen my tip. Water temp was cold (my guess 58). Saw a few sandies in about 35ft. Huge School of I think croaker. Very fun dive none the less.

Re: Laguna Report

Thanks for the report. I was thinking Catalina tomorrow, but can't find a third guy to help with the gas, so I think I'll let all these reports of clear water keep me along the coast, even if I'll freeze my ass.

Bill,

If you ever need somebody else to pitch for gas, pull anchor, and clean fish. I can be that guy. No prob for the report. I was trying to look for you at the mlpa meeting but could not find you. Hope the foot is all healed up.

Re: Laguna Report

nice report Ivan. I was out in North Laguna yesterday. Vis was ~20 feet, though there were a few murky spots. I didnt see too much life at the first spot, but the 2nd one had some.

Bill, I have monday, wednesdy, and friday off from work until probably Jan... so consider me if the other two above aren't free!

Thanks for the consideration, I will e-mail you my phone number!

Re: Laguna Report

Well, nobody missed much. The water was beautiful clear- could see the 55 foot bottom from 15 feet- but cold, 59.

Dam really hurts my morale when he jumps in first and screams from the cold.

Lots of bait at first spot- smelt, both kinds of mackerel, blacksmith, but no game fish.

At the second spot, it was also full of bait plus a lot of barracuda and clear, but no fish. I finally got back in the boat to rest and warm up, but of course Dam keeps on keeping on even if his teeth are chattering, and he finally spotted a 50 to 60 pound white sea bass. He almost got close enough to pull the trigger, but it spooked. Even Dam could us a gun longer than 50" now and then.

We moved the boat out near the edge of the bed where he saw the fish, and both of us dove until we couldn't feel our fingers, but no luck. The wind came up, the fog rolled in, and it was a bitch getting out of the wet suits, but then the hot fresh water shower and the heated cabin saved us.

Edit: I forgot- Dam did get a lobster.
