La Jolla - My first Sheepshead!
Went to la jolla today and met up with Mario, also met a few more spearboarders.
The vis was pretty good, not as good as yesterday but still good. I ended up shooting my first sheepshead, I was pumped! He was under a ledge with a bunch of perch and he started moving to the back as soon as I saw him. I nailed him in the side, but I'm only using 1x16mm band and got a bad angle on him so the flopper didn't engage so I had to swim back down and jam the spear through him until it did. I got my second smaller one just free swimming. They were 24" and 17", and I don't know how much they weighed as I don't have a scale, but regardless I'm very satisfied for my first sheepsheads! It was great meeting everyone today also, hopefully we end up spearing together again!

Two first goats. NICE. I been seeing a lot of females lately. No big reef masters seen. Congrats.

Thanks on the sheepshead, I'm pumped about it! It was way different cleaning them from what I've been cleaning so far, the ribs were a bitch to get through. The fillets were monstrous though, enough for 4 good meals in those 2 fish. I'm heading back down to La Jolla tomorrow morning after class, Zorora left me a message saying he was going, anyone else is more than welcome! My number is under my name. |

Thanks, I saw yours on your report, you were slaying the sculpin today! Sorry for getting in your way on that big one, I'd feel like shit if I had spooked him.

Re: La Jolla - My first Sheepshead!
Congrats Ben, sweet 2 first Sheephead! Keep the jaws (there's an inner set) they're cool.
It must've been a Sheephead suicide day, as this one got skewered as it quartered out of viz.
