Re: help us out please

Class act, Phil!

My Mid Atlantic spearos and spearas - please help support fishing rights here in CA. The MLPA is not what it seems and will do little to help conservation efforts and NOTHING to address pollution and overdevelopment. But it WILL hurt the economy and waterman's way of life here on the West Coast.

If I see your name on our growing list of concerned divers, I will help you with accomidations and finding good fishing spots if you ever make it out here. I hosted Ren, Ash, and Kolt during their trip out here - I would be happy to do it again for any non-CA spearos willing to help us out here in CA.

Cheers,

Kelsea

Re: help us out please

Awesome!!!

Follow the link that Phil posted - it will take you to our thread in the CA section. There are region-specific letters with rationale for supporting the Workgroup 2 Proposal - you use these letters to send emails to the addresses provided in the thread. It takes only few moments of your time. In the letter, please add that you are from NC and you care about access to fishing in CA. Be as business-like and professional in the language you use in the email, if you choose to talk about why someone in NC would support fishing rights in CA.

We are most appreciative of any help and time you all can provide.

Btw - your homecoming queen is beautiful - nice catch!

Re. South Coast comment for BRTF.
Supporting RSG Proposal 2 for the San Diego (BRTF Option 4 released Nov. 1, 2009) Region

Dear Members of the BRTF:

I support RSG Proposal 2 (BRTF Option 4 released Nov. 1, 2009) for the San Diego Region, where it meets all science guidelines and lessens economic impact. RSG Proposal 2 map (BRTF Option 2 released Nov. 1, 2009) also captures the rare deep water rock and pinnacles at Del Mar. Other proposals fall short of SAT guidelines because they do not.

I do NOT support closure of South La Jolla. If the task force closes south La Jolla, enlarges the existing reserve and grows the SMCA proposed for the pier all the way up to Torrey Pines (BOOKENDS), there will be many negative impacts. For example, closing south La Jolla will cause huge compaction in the postage stamp-sized NW of La Jolla. Compaction will cause a huge threat to public safety. We'll have to share a tiny area with sportboats, private boats, commercial boats, free divers and kayakers. People will get hurt, most likely a free diver or kayaker.

Further, South La Jolla is critically important to local commercial lobster and urchin and to the sportboat landings in Mission Bay. Besides, north Pt Loma is more suitable for closure as it offers the most persistent kelp forest in Southern California. When there's no kelp in LJ, it’s still hanging on at north Pt Loma. The economic and access hits are much lighter if North Point Loma and Del Mar are chosen instead.

I also support RSG Proposal 2 map for all regions since it provides for almost as much protection as other RSG WGs at 1/2 to 1/4 of the socioeconomic cost to the recreational fishermen, commercial fishermen and fishing-dependent communities. RSG Proposal 2 has broad cross-interest and presents a fully-integrated array, which resulted from a year of more of intense negotiations and real compromises and sacrifices among a wide variety of ocean users.

Even though I live on the other side of the country I still care about my friends fishing and dive rights on the West Coast. I have a friend who’s dad is in the Navy in San Diego and hope to visit in the near future. On my visit I would like to do some freedive spearfishing but the closures make that more difficult. I would really love to dive for white sea bass and be able to see mountains from the surf line, this is something I cannot do here in North Carolina. We don’t have the variety of life that California has so close to shore and we have to go miles out on a boat to reach depths of just 50ft. I think that the

I think that the coast should stop being developed and left open to the consumptive environmentalists to do what we do best. Dont close the coast to those who truly enjoy it for all its beauty.
