Re: Fii Freediving Classes in Orange County!

Who are going to be the instructors? I would have thought that Martin was all booked up for the year, but I have yet to look on the FII website.

Mark Lozano is the west coast instructor for Martin's organization FII. He will be doing the teaching for us.

What are the differences in level 1 vs. level 2?

who should sign up for level 1 for example?

From the website:

LEVEL I FREEDIVER

Can you swim? Want to take your snorkeling skills to the next level? Get up close and personal with those corals you've been gazing down at from above? Perhaps you'd like to cross-train for SCUBA by learning oxygen-efficient breathing techniques.

Level I Freediver students typically come to the Program having relative comfort in the water, but limited or no experience with basic equipment or with breath-hold diving. Many have encountered ear pressure difficulties or other problems which have held them back in the past. The F.I.I. Level I Freediver Program is a 2-day course designed to introduce swimmers and snorkelers to the skills required to move below the surface. Freedive safely, comfortably and confidently to maximum depths of 66 feet (20 meters).

LEVEL II FREEDIVER

This four day course is perfect for spearfishermen, scuba divers and freedivers whom are already familiar with and confident in the open ocean. We will show you during this class what you can do with your natural inborn physiology and teach you the techniques to unlock them!

Throughout this course you will be instructed in and finally assessed on:

•Intermediate static apnea technique development and skills
•Confined water static apnea safety, rescue and buddy supervision techniques
•Freediving specific equipment
•The physics and physiology of freediving
•Psychological aspects of freediving
•Freediving training and skills development
•Open water rescue skills, buddy supervision and self evaluation.
In addition to this we will introduce you to lung measurement and analysis and conduct daily video technique reviews.

Participants will be encouraged to take a 30 minute test on course completion to gain Level 2 certification card. This is required to advance in further freediving training.

Courses run from Saturday through to Tuesday, with a total of 10 hours classroom instruction, 3.5 hours of confined pool training and 3 half days of open ocean training.

The F.I.I. Level 2 has a maximum depth limitation of 40 meters (132 feet).

Re: Fii Freediving Classes in Orange County!

Mike,
Can you schedule a Level II course over two weekends? The other guys have a 4 day course also, but it never works out for me (School Teacher) or my son (High School Student).

Anyone else out there who would attend a Level II course if it was over two weekends? (I understand that there are issues with the trainers who may have to travel to Irvine all that entails, but....)

Can you scheldule one during the summer?

Jeff

Re: Fii Freediving Classes in Orange County!

Jeff, I spoke with the instructor regarding this already. We will be planning one. They just do not choose to schedule them like that unless its a must because of the need for the continuous training and instruction and getting the students in the proper mindset.

However, I can schedule one though, so help me get 3 more people together and Ill get one on the books for January!
