Pneumatic gun question
All,
Due to a shoulder injury, I wil not be able to load my band guns for a few months. I own one pneumatic, (Mares Cyrano 850) and I have no difficulty loading it using my good arm. I have used this gun on fish up to 20lbs at a close distance, I would like to purchase another pneumatic in the 110cm range for longer distances and heavier fish. What kind of performance can I expect? would it be possible to shoot thru a 50lb fish at 10ft with this length pneumatic? also, is there another brand or model that you have experience with and could recommend. Any info would be appreciated, Thanks, KC |

Re: Pneumatic gun question
In general a pneumatic gun is more powerful than a similar, single band gun. I have no problem taking a 40lb fish at 10ft with a 110 band gun, hence it should be more than OK with a pneumatic.
On the members items there is a pneumatic gun up for sale by Zag - it is the nice new model at the price is a steal compared to scubasworld. |

Re: Pneumatic gun question
If you can swim up to within 10 feet of a 50 lb. fish, I say go for it.
Otherwise, let the shoulder heal and get back on the "band" wagon

Re: Pneumatic gun question
If you have to fish, a pneumatic will let you control pressure easily to something you can load without hurting yourself.

Re: Pneumatic gun question
the 110cm omer airbaletes i shot over the summer were sick. they shot like a bat out of hell and tracked effortlessly through the water. you can charge it up or down based on your power preference. single flopper i was stringing 40lb fish from 10-15'. thing is laser accurate and powerful. notice the head shots with complete penetration on avg 38-42lb fish at 12+ ft range. the gun fires 3 full wraps to the end accurately. the last one left is in absolutely pristine condition and priced to sell.

Re: Pneumatic gun question
Remember that the sizing is different to band guns so a 100 air gun is the size aprox of a 90 band gun.
Hope you get well soon mate

Re: Pneumatic gun question
I easily stoned a 50lb AJ with Mares Cyrano 1100. You should have no problem.

Re: Pneumatic gun question
Question; I've never even seen a pneumatic gun, how do they work? Is it charged with CO2 or do you pump it at the surface like a bb gun?

Maybe you could use tahitian shaft for Cyrano 970 with your Cyrano 850 gun. Using Tomba vacuum system you'll get more than 50 % higher power at same gun pressure, so you could use longer shaft and have longer shoot. |

Re: Pneumatic gun question
Thanks for all the info guys, I think that I wil go for the sten in the 100 or the cyrano in 110. It is good to here from guys that have "been there done that" with the equipment. That "Mamba" system looks interesting, I might check into getting one of those. I think that I can get one for either model of Mares gun.
Nick, you are right, i have loaded many a speargun for those 2 back when they were little, and I will make my oldest load them for me if he is on board, but he is getting interested in other things these days beside spearfishing with the old man. My youngest can load the small stuff, but my RA 130CM would give him a challenge. Thanks again for all the info guys Keith |

Re: Pneumatic gun question
Farters kill fish, period. Chances are if you give'em a fair try you'll probably like them, any Cyrannos is good, and would be my first choice. The new omer is also good and incrediably easy to load, just not worth the $600 IMHO. Good luck.

Re: Pneumatic gun question
Thanks again guys,
I am going for the Cyrano 110cm, I like the 850 that I have and would like to have some more reach. I ordered some shafts from Mike at Florida Freedivers for the 850, they greatly increased the penetration from the stock shaft that came with it. Thanks again for the info, and good hunting to all.
