Wet Suit Heater
For all of you cold water wimps and gadget whores out there, (I am one!) you might want to try the sale on these.

Re: Wet Suit Heater
I recently tried one but can't say if it was a good test as the water was already 55°F. It gets hot. I didn't use the neoprene belt that comes with it. I stuck the activated gel pack directly into the lower back under my suit.

Re: Wet Suit Heater
I still prefer your low-tech method with the water carriers
![]() Since then, I've carried hot Platypus bottles on every dive that's gonna get cold. Eric and Ethan were totally stoked as they poured the shivers away on the boat.

Can't. When I pee, I fart.

Re: Wet Suit Heater
I have one of those. Works pretty good. Gives you about 45 minutes of nice warmth. A little hard to activate through a double layer of suit (assuming your wearing a two piece). Overall, pretty good for floating around in March, staring in the murk, waiting to ruin Bill Ernst's day

Work's good for half the day. They tend to burn a bit. Beats the pee rash!

Re: Wet Suit Heater
That could scare some WSB if you're not careful
It's happened to meFYI: Chemical heat packs are believed to be able to ignite fires inside of hyperbaric chambers. Pressurization to different materials can cause them to spontaneously ignite within an enriched oxygen environment. When taking a "ride" in the chamber, one must wear all cotton clothing, and no shoes are allowed inside due to the fact that they could bring in grease and/or oil into the chamber. As a general rule the patient's wetsuit is removed before pressurization, however, in some cases it isn't feasible to do so. I'll stick to peeing in my suit, thanks.

Re: Wet Suit Heater
The ones we (I) are discussing are not the hand warmers used for skiing, hunting, and other dry-land activities which require oxygen to work. BTW I tested these once at high altitude while teaching snow camping - they do not work efficiently.
The heating pads that we are discussing are based upon very sophisticated thermodynamics that involve phase changes that occur during liquid/crystal transition. In this case it is sodium acetate "freezing". When this occurs upon activation by "clicking" the metal disc energy is released in the form of heat. This process is reversible by putting energy back (boiling the gel pack) effecting a phase change from crystal to liquid allowing reuse of the gel pack repeatedly (in theory indefinitely). Luckily like most things we don't really have to understand the theory to make practical use of it! http://home.howstuffworks.com/question290.htm Brian Ishida Quote:

Re: Wet Suit Heater
If you want a heated wetsuit, buy a Rip Curl H Bomb. This video shows the suit in use using a FLIR camera while Mick Fanning moves around. Surfing wetsuits are way ahead of the ball when it comes to wetsuit development.
