lift assist

Does anyone have any ideas about a inexpensive lift assist for roof rack on a truck. I been looking at new SOTS and they are not light, anywhere from 60-90 pounds.

Re: lift assist

MeTo--just wondering why you need a lift assist?
I am 63, 5'10 and 165lbs and just slide my 14'6" scupper pros on and off the top of my F150 all the time. Perhaps it is like loading a long rail gun, more technique than strength. I slide/carry/wheel my yaks to the back of my truck, lift the front of the yak up onto the open tailgate, pick the yak up again and set the nose of the yak on top of the back rack bar, lift the tail of the yak up and slide the yak forward onto the front rack bar. Jump up into the truck bed, roll the yak over onto its top on the rack (yak is now upside down), tie/chain/lock it down and drive 80mph home. Done
(my scupper pros live on my F150, they are either on the truck or in the water.
Sorry I do not know anything about a lift.
Let me know if I can help further.

Re: lift assist

Thanks for the input. That's how I put it on now, I was looking for something to get it on from the side for when the bed has the cover on it. I think the scupper pro is lighter then 86 pounds. I had no problem with my Prowler.

Re: lift assist

I use a tailgate extender that fits into the trailer hitch. Holds my 14' kayak and I don't have to lift it higher than the bed. Just another option.
