Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Out SW of Clearwater pass this afternoon to dive in 45 fsw. Seas were very calm all day. Dead fish floating from the inside of Clearwater pass until 5 miles W of the beaches from the red tide (thanks to Piney Point). The dead fish finally cleared out right at the edge of state waters but could see the algae in the water after getting past the dead fish zone.

Viz was hazy TTB in 40’ early afternoon and got a little more hazy as the current picked up mid-afternoon. Water was 83° on the surface. Shot some mangos and a gag. Great day on the water.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

We got out yesterday out of JP and were able to get out to 60-70’ with the storms staying west and north of our position.

It was a tight window 10 am to 1:00 between the full moon ripping currents.

Blue water on the way down to the last 15’ with some haze at the bottom on each dive. Managed 3 nice mangos, limit of hogfish, 2 scamp and a fat red grouper.

Seas were FAC flat ass calm on the ride in. Cleaned gear etc and the storms rolled in. Thanks

Nice any sharks? We have been having multiple sharks in 120-150’h/l fishing.

Was beginning to think there were no posts because of too many sharks.

I have only encountered 1 so far in 8 dives this season.

Had a least a dozen last 3 fishing trips

Funny you should ask - LOL.

Had probably my worst shark encounter so far as a diver. A VERY aggressive lemon shark came out of nowhere after I shot a gag. The gag pulled off the shaft and booked it, but the shark was making a bee-line right at me and I got that "6th sense" huzz feeling and jerked my head to the left as he was coming right at ME (not the gag). He veered off at the last second and then harassed me later after I shot another fish. I had to put a dent in his head with a spear (me shoving it in him) when he came at me again. Good times!

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Finally dove after what feels like forever. 50' out of Sarasota yesterday vis was probably 20' on the surface and dropped to about 10' on the bottom. managed a few fish. Spot was overrun with the biggest goliaths I have ever seen which was unfortunate.

Any viz reports 20-30 miles offshore from Clearwater since Aug 6 would be appreciated!

Limit of gags and scamp. Lot of mangos and hogs as well. 2 lobster. Lot f bait. Saw several Spanish Mackarel. Some short AJ's.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

20-25 vertical and horizontal viz today in 50-60 feet of water off Homosassa. TONS of mangos, but gags were skittish. Distressingly small number of small hogs. Did get a bonus 18" flounder - first I have seen in ages. Lots of small AJs and some spanish macks.
