Land Hunting

Anybody else land hunting? That time of year. Leaving warm sunny Fl. 11-11-20 till 11-23-20 for the cool to cold U.P. Mi. for whitetail deer. Get in the last 3 days of bow and then on 11-15 rifle starts.

Re: Land Hunting

Probably going to shoot a few does with my kids crossbow here in the Georgia mountains.Would like a nice hog but I haven't seen any except in steep areas that I cant get an ATV in to pull them over the mountain.
My cousin and a buddy have cabins in the U.P.Pretty country but 3 ft of snow sucks to drag a huge deer.I will shoot some meat on my kids property and have the grandkid fetch it on the ATV.

I miss the hunt, time in the woods watching nature and my buddies at the end of the day. Hard to get excited about hunting in Fl after the north woods of Minnesota

Hunting deer in Florida; Just pick them up and put em under your arm and walk home with them.

Re: Land Hunting

Kind of nice not hearing car horns and sirens out in the north woods.

Re: Land Hunting

I have hunted a lot of Florida.Every area had its own appeal to me.I don't miss the sweltering heat and humidity during Archery in the Everglades/Corbett area.I don't miss the pygmy rattlers or moccasins every 50 ft or having to rush to get ice on the meat before it cooked in the sun.
I do miss the smells and the variety of terrain in Three Lakes,Fisheating Creek and Bull Creek or running an Airboat up the Kissimmee river to go hunt hogs and deer.I grew up in Florida but once the light pollution was enough I could navigate my airboat home by the glow in the sky I knew it was time to go.
We moved to the Georgia mountains and my 15 year old son was shooting does from our second story window with a bow. They didn't cook in the heat either.
Got a tip on some hogs nearby today so it might be time for a Cuban style BBQ soon.

Years ago before Broward got developed past I75 the guy I got my Airboat from shot a 175# 7 point buck in Francis Taylor.Average weight was around 140.Then water management flooded the area and development starved them down to 60-70#At least on the Airboat we could ice them down quick.Used to see an occasional bear or panther and that stopped too.I had horses off 75 and Sheridan st and could watch deer, hogs, bobcats and a female panther that kept the coons under control. Its ALL under asphalt now.

Re: Land Hunting

Finally scraped up the money to get a basic NV monocular with bump helmet and a IR Laser/light.
Need to sell a couple safe queens to set up the other weapons with IR Lasers and get a 10mm Glock MOS with RMR.I want to get thermal too but its not cheap either.
Coyotes and Hogs are going to get lit up!
