Question Newbie introduction

Hey guys, I just moved to San Diego from the east coast and I am looking to get into spearfishing and just bought some gear and would really like to get in the water ASAP. I'm Looking for a spearfishing buddy that wouldn't mind giving a complete newbie a few pointers I just got out of the navy and usually pick things up pretty quick, so I shouldn't be too much of an anchor. I live in mission valley. PM me if you are local and would be interested in diving.

Weather/swell is looking good for this weekend, head out to Point Loma or La jolla if you get the chance.

You guys are dicks. I think I saw this guy at James & Joseph over the weekend. Seemed like a nice guy and willing to be respectful and learn. Another spearboard member recommended he check out the forums. If I lived in SD I'd take him for a swim.

Re: Newbie introduction

Welcome to the board.

You might try going to a club meeting down there to meet up with some spearos. Lately, I've been meeting other spearos because they recognize the shirts I wear. You could also post in the Buddy Networking - California section. I think a lot of users avoid threads that contain "newbie." Safe diving mate.

I just have all the basic equipment. Wetsuit, long fins, goggles, snorkel, weight belt, and a Rob Allen speargun. I haven't bought a kayak yet. I would like to get comfortable in the water and learn the sport a bit more before I invest too much, but I will for sure be looking into getting a kayak soon.

Re: Newbie introduction

God, some of you are dicks, give him the safety low down, and let him learn. Welcome to the sport, keep chatting someone will take you out, even if its not to spear right off the bat but just do some free dives to get used to the environment. Welcome to the brutal world of spearfishing forums.
