Good report David. Looks like Aqua Aces Rodeo was fun.

Re: Helldivers Win Best Club - Ansardi wins King
Thanks Guys. Definately the fish of a lifetime.
I have to give "Props" to the boat captain, Jason Guitreau of the Git 'Em Spearfishing Team. He is a man of few words, but his actions speak volumes. His seamanship and knowledge of the waters put me on the fish. The crew consisted of Jason, Eddie Aydell, Dwayne Watts, David Templet of Git Em, Cory Green and myself of The Hell Divers. On the second dive of the first day, I had a testicular fortitude check at 165 feet (and nowhere near the bottom) when I came across the 124# stingray. I aimed, squeezed the trigger, and discovered my gun was on safe. Was someone trying to tell me something? I quickly regrouped and took the shot. The shot was well placed and the fight never happened. My trip was already made with the taking of this fish. So the next dive, I was just meandering around at 175". A 70# AJ passed by and I thought about shooting it, but opted not since the trip was just begining and larger ones should be seen. Ten seconds later, a large head swims 5 feet below me, I turned left to see how big the fish was. He stops and I gauged him at 95-100#. I quickly turn my gun and take a not-so-good shot that struck the gill plate. Two weeks earlier at the Hell Divers Rodeo I shot a 70# AJ in the gill plate. The fish wrapped around the rig and pulled the tip from its head. So I decided to stay outside the rig and fight this one. After initially gaining ground on the fish he came to life and commenced to dragging me back down. After his initial run things became a little easier and I slowly gained ground on the fish. It wasn't until I tried to lift the fish up for pictures did I realize that my estimate was way off. The official weight on a certified scale at the dock as 121# 15 oz. Here are some pics. |

Yeah, and he's got a mouth like a 55 gallon drum. The fish I mean.

Re: Helldivers Win Best Club - Ansardi wins King
George, awesome fish man. I wonder if that Heavy Metal boat would ever consider bringing a freediver on board? I had a good time diving with Joe from the helldivers on Thursday, he put me on some nice fish. I had a few lemonfish, a small AJ, and barracuda, and I totally airballed a shot on a decent sized AJ (for feediving at least), maybe I'll aim better next time.
On Friday, I dove with some fellow Aqua Aces, and that's when I got the snapper. I'll post some pics in a little bit. |
