Re: South Florida Kayak/Shoredive Tournament
Why is the eligible species list so restricted/limited?

Re: South Florida Kayak/Shoredive Tournament
It's a shore and kayak dive tournament in Hollywood. What other species do you want? Cobia are very very rare off the beach here. Everybody will obviously be limited to state waters so none of those regulated species apply. We could have added barracuda, but even those are pretty rare in the tournament area. With a simple total weight scoring system, a lame ass barracuda would trump other more prestigious fish in the other categories. We could add a grunt and margate categoryI've been diving this exact area several times a week for several years now.. I've got a pretty good idea of whats out there and what can feasibly be taken on a 6 hr dive. I tried to draw up the categories in a way that every team should have the opportunity to fill every category and no one fish can sweep the entire thing.

Re: South Florida Kayak/Shoredive Tournament
I was thinking of jacks. If you don't want it to end up being a big fish tournament, max your fish size. 10, 15, or 20 lb max allowed per fish. That's how it's done in the Nats. 15 lb max last year in RI and 10 lb max per fish next year in Kona .

Re: South Florida Kayak/Shoredive Tournament
A weight cap makes sense in RI with big striped bass and Hawaii with pelagics and Ulua, those rules don't really apply to this area and format, though.
Like Nate said the goal is to have categories that leave it so everyone should be able to meet the take limits yet not sweep it with one fish. @ 12 participants now looking forward to more joining. |
