Which MFD and radar for your slab?

Looking at buying new electronics for my boat. Soliciting opinions for best bang for the buck and why. I'm leaning toward Garmin products at the moment.

Here is my rig Jetro (newer models are available):

Garmin 2010 C

Garmin 276C

Furuno RD30

The RD30 is placed so divers sitting n the gunnels about to splash can see the exact distance and bearing to the mark which makes for better drops in our often swift currents.

Re: Which MFD and radar for your slab?

The wind and current was quite strong yesterday. Being able to look up and see exactly where we were in relation to the mark enabled us to more accurately drop 800 feet and 10 degrees to the mark so that the offshore push placed us within 100 feet of the deep wreck.

Re: Which MFD and radar for your slab?

I've debated Garmin versus Lowrance for my 24ft RIB and haven't decided yet:

Lowrance has rebates right now:
HDS-7 Gen 2 with insight maps $941 - $150 = $791
LSS-1 w/ transducer $515 - $150 = $365
Lowance LRA-1800 HD $1076 - $150 = $926
Total $2082
(with the above, send in rebates as: (1) LSS-1 by itself for $150 and (2) the HDS-7 & Radar together for $300)

Garmin 740s (has g2 maps) $1225
Garmin GMR18HD (factory refurb w/ warranty) $900
Total $2125

Both of the above need a regular transducer, so add from $80-$1000 to each depending on your needs.

I can't decide yet...everyone has an opinion on what is better. Another buddy yesterday said I'd be silly not to go with Raymarine.

Who know....

Any more opinions????

Re: Which MFD and radar for your slab?

Garmin hands down for consumer plotting units and JRC for the best bottom machines (FF-60) and Furuno is a close second. Lorance is bass boat crap that spends more time getting fixed than on your boat. Raymarine used to be good when JRC made their stuff but now it is way overpriced and very user unfriendly.

Stay away from combo units and "one button wonders" I don't have much experience with touch screens for offshore equipment but they should have it pretty well mastered by now.
