Sorry there is not any way to do it accurate enough for diving ,, the formulas will only get you in 200 - 500 yard range. approximation . Stoggie

Re: Loran to GPS numbers?

Andren converter is great. Cost near $100 though. Some of my converted numbers are dead on and others I have to circe for a few minutes to find them.
It's a great organizer for all your numbers ad can transfer directly to your memory cards for any plotter. Worth the money. They sell it at bethel marine electronics in Melbourne. Good luck.

Re: Loran to GPS numbers?

Carl Andren will convert all the numbers you want if they are set up correctly. I had it done 6 months ago and then it cost $25. Best $25 I have spent in a long time, converted about 1200 numbers. Go to his website. So far each spot I have looked for has been relqatively close.

It's all about having the offsets set correctly. Mine is as accurate as Gps, have not had a problem finding a number yet.

Re: Loran to GPS numbers?

I have had the same experience as B Lang. I have a Furuno GP32 GPS with the right offsets inputted and it is as accurate as my old Loran ever was. Obviously, it is desirable to fine-tune your #'s over time and convert to Lat/Long since GPS is more accurate than Loran C was ever designed to be.

Also, I believe the offsets vary depending on your area. If you talk to someone that has already been through the process (i.e. if you know and are friendly with a Commercial or Recreational Guy that made the transition from Loran C to GPS locally) they can give you the correct offsets.

The Software and algorithm may not work equally well in all GPS units when switching over to Loran C TD's, but it is very accurate with Furuno GPS's once you have the correct offsets inputted.

Re: Loran to GPS numbers?

I used Andren and it is very accurate in the Sebastian area because that is where Carl the software maker dives most.

That software does require you to be a little tech savy but Carl was very helpful every time I called him. The more numbers you have both TDs and Lat/Lon for in an area, the more accurate the conversions will be.

Sending him the numbers to convert honestly sounds like the way to go.
