Mike,
I for one, have felt your pain if possible vicariously through you....This post has had a profound effect on me...more so than any other..
Your unselfish sacrifice demostrates something far deeper than friendship....true love of a man you admired and had a special bond....we should all be so lucky...
RIP Johnny Longblades....your spirit will live on...

Mike,

As you go through the grieving process, you may ask yourself if you could have done more to help JLB. From your account of things, you and diver 3 did everything right. You risked your life by getting Johnny to the surface as fast as possible, and diver 3 kept up with his deco ensuring that one of you would be in good shape to get to shore ASAP (that had to be the longest decompression).

The actions of both of you are commendable.

Re: Here's what happened Sunday

Three years ago I lost a very close friend in a similar incident. I can relate to some of what you all must be going through. I still see my friend at the end of every perfect day though. His hat and his glasses hang out in the corner of the salon of my boat, ever watchful but forever silent. Yep, we all still miss him, but it hurts a tiny bit less every day. Try not to dwell on the pain. Learn to embrace those fond memories instead. It will take some time.

Re: Here's what happened Sunday

Hey Mike glad you are ok. Like shannon always says this is the game you guys play. somehow that just does not seem to make me feel any better. I am having a very hard time writing this. I tried to call "diver 3" yesterday but no answer. If you read this brother and you need anything at all call me. Same with you Mike. I love you both. Im sorry this is such a crap post but I just dont know what to say. Good job to you both for a hell of an effort. Johnny man good luck with your journey and dont be stingy with your numbers when I get there. You should get up with Rich "mdspear's son" as I know he already has some killer spots up there. GOOD LUCK JOHNNY and HAPPY HUNTING. In my mind there is great hunting in heaven. Mike and "diver 3" anything you need. Thank you spearboard for being there for these guys

Mike,

We don't know each other, but I am glad to hear you are ok. What you did for your friend is truly heroic. I hope you and all of JLB's friends and family get through this trying time quickly.
