Giant Bluefin West of SCI
...Just returned from 2 days up at the Wrigley mansion above Avalon. Great views from our 2nd story window of bait schools getting hit by tuna and yellowtail. This despite all the boat traffic along the island..
...Highlight was watching a fellow staggering down the street with a big tuna on his shoulder, enroute home... There are lots of big yellows along the backside on the bait schools. Find the grocery store and you will land a big yellow. Tuna schools are present along the backside strip, out to the Mackeral Bank and on up to the 499/Osborne Bank spots. ...Several guys on the island advised that if we want to find a world record, the place to be is west of San Clemente island about 20 miles....Reportedly, some fish there that would probably break the 400 lb mark. Hasn't been this good since 1923 when Zane Grey was catching them near the harbor entrance... |
