I know and what gets me is some of the ignorant people in NJ who don't follow this kinda stuff think our season sucks
Your fish up there tend to be a bit larger but your regulations are still nuts!!!

Re: 09 NJ summer flounder season

I think since we are fishing basically same waters, so regulations should be same as well, but I think the whole regulating board is a big fraud. I bet neither one of them ever dove to check actual condition on the bottom. Last year was so many blackfish down there that I couldn't believe my eyes. The only thing was that they didn't bite! I was diving not far from the anchored boats and got my limit in 5 min, when the fishermen didn't get even nibble. Then, they report that blackfish is not there where it supposed to be and DEC cuts limit from 10 to 4 fish. I don't care what the limits are, anyway I have never taken 10 allowed fish, maybe like 5-6, but that was enough for me, but why we are not allowed at least 1 fish a day as it is allowed in NJ? The season is shorten as well, now it ends at April 30, when the water is still cold enough for most divers to get wet. May was just much better... So the whole point is that those regulations are so off, so ridiculous that I might consider move some other place.

Hopefully the saltwater registry will help us out so they know exactly how many people are fishing and can adjust the regulations accordingly.

Y'all, in New York, are about to get a State license. It's in your budget bill and all moneys are to be placed in your Conservation Fund which has been depleted and is not stricly for Marine waters support.
