Post Dive Dizzyness - vertigo?
Hey everyone,
Went freediving in Hawaii last week. Had a little right ear pain when trying to equalize. Took a break and started diving again; seemed easier to equalize. One dive ~40ft mid dive I got really disoriented and dizzy. Made it back to shore, couldn't stand up straight; ended up throwing up everything in my stomach. A week later back in the bay, I still seem to have issues getting dizzy easy when swinging my head around or standing up. It doesn't feel like any water or pressure in my ears. Hoping to see a doctor this week Has anyone experienced this? |

Re: Post Dive Dizzyness - vertigo?
See a physical therapist who is versed in treating vestibular disorders. I say this because .....guess.
True, an Epley maneuver may help, but you are guessing. Good news is if you guess wrong, ain't gonna hurt you. The therapist will be able to tell you if you have a central or peripheral (can be both, but most likely peripheral) problem and treat what you have. Typically horizontal or posterior canal issue that can be addressed in the clinic. Outcomes are typically very quick and predictable when appropriately diagnosed and treated. Try FindAPT.com. Good luck |

Re: Post Dive Dizzyness - vertigo?
You may have a tiny pinhole rupture if failing to equalize properly at 40'...if so, it should go away in a week or so...may need an anti-biotic to ensure no ear infection...

Re: Post Dive Dizzyness - vertigo?
Let us know how it goes. A lot of things can be the culprit of vertigo/dizziness. A sound clinical exam is the right place to start. Hope you are back diving soon.

Sounds like you have already seen a doc.
Fwiw in my experience I have had it occur 2x. One time I ruptured the eardrum. The other it seemed like a had earwax buildup, prob from jamming qtips with alcohol in my ears, and a good cleaning with the otc bulb cleaner solved the issue. |

Re: Post Dive Dizzyness - vertigo?
spent the weekend diving up north.. dove 4 times.. second dive and beyond my body got really comfortable. never had issues with pressure, sea sickness or post-dive vertigo.
Medicine: kwells pretty much daily, and some decongestant. I think it made a huge difference not dealing with sinus issues i also had a little amount of coffee in the morning; normally I would abstain, but then get a headache from lack of caffine all in all. seems all good. .. and we limited on lings one day |
