need help booking a trip

Hey guys, hope yall are doing well.

I'm heading down with the family to stay in Port Richey 22-30 June. I am looking to freedive and spear while I am down there. I'm having a hard time finding a charter (most seem to be focused on scuba). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm somewhat experienced (not an expert by any stretch) but have been to Hawaii, the Keys, and a few lakes in the midwest spearing before.

Thanks for any help!

Call Ozona Fish Camp in Palm Harbor, get the phone number for Captain Brian D or Ben, both do inshore and have access to some high end off shore boats. Maybe they’ll work a deal and take you 8-10’miles out in one of the flats boats.

Re: need help booking a trip

This is just speculation but one reason you might have a hard time finding someone to take you freedive spearing is for liability and no one wants to be the guy calling CG to report you-know-what. The visibility isn't great, certainly not TTB. I'd think a charter operation would need to have someone in the water with dive gear but that gets difficult to manage b/c a blackout or other problem could occur anywhere from the bottom of the dive to on the surface.

You might find more luck trying to entice local freedivers to take you out. There is a tampa spearfishing facebook group. Throw out a post and offer some $$

Good luck

Thanks for the tip. Worst case, I'll end up going back to the keys later this year, I'll let y'all know what I can come up with.
