pretty let down today.

Dove cress st this morning. Big waves, hazy viz, only 2 goats, no hippie action anywhere, and heavy fog. Kind of wanted to go out with a bang. With that being said, the city of laguna beach can now go ____ themselves on their MPA beaches. How did everyone else do?

Re: pretty let down today.

Went to Woods cove where there were about 10 or so divers that just got out after about half hour. Saw the same as you. Big waves, white wash everywhere. Stopped at Victoria beach and it was CRANKIN! Took one look and decided within a minute that we weren't going out there. 5-6ft sets. Went to Treasure Island and it was divable. No waves but some surface chop. Stayed for 30 min and jumped out. Big ol zero on the board.

Re: pretty let down today.

since a beach dive was my only option..entered from crystal cove and swam over to irvine cove and emerald bay(with a broken right fin that shattered upon entry ) got my limit on sheeps one calico. Tons of life vis was 10-15 over reef and surge was STRONG..all in all a good day

Re: pretty let down today.

Its was rough out Eric. I typically like to put my fins on once im in the water but the sets we big and strong so David (Holehunter) and i wanted to be able to get out passed the break point quick. I was so conserned on making sure David was okay that i got caught and the force of the wave and the bottom litterally shattered my Mako fin. Its all good though! time for the fiberglass upgrade

Re: pretty let down today.

Dove La Jolla at the North end of the closure. Big surf, Bad Viz, Strong surge. I forgot my light which meant every shelf and hole was cram packed with huge fish and bugz that I just couldn't see! At one point I was looking under a large shelf with one hand on top to fight against the surge when I realized there was a very large rockfish about 12" from my hand on top. needless to say I couldn't get a shot on him and didn't see him again, but the sighting got me looking on top instead of under these shelves, and for some reason the rock fish were sitting in the surge on top while all other types of fish seemed to be hiding underneath. Saw several more rockfish chilling in the weeds but nothing worth shooting. Beautiful area with great reef, went home with no fish and no bugz to show for my last dive there. Knowing it was my last dive there really made me appreciate what a great spot that is. This morning I am bummed to think of all the good spots we lost, feeling a little hopeless for our sports future. I guess there is nothing left to do but pray for reef balls and the money to place them.
