Port A conditions????

I am hoping to head to Port A Thursday 5/28. Tide table looks great. Any reports on viz:

1) Off of jetties at high tide.
2) Out at near rigs.
3) anywhere else good to free dive & hunt.

Thanks in advance, Al +

Re: Port A conditions????

I was there Sunday. Visibility was about 8' in spots pretty darn good. Then a tanker came through and muddied it all up inside the jetty. Outside it wasn't too bad. I went down to packery and shot my limit of sheepshead and a few mangroves. One of the mangroves was 22"

I was not in Port A for the weekend put all reports said the vis on the jetty was up to 20 ft which is great. Check out the web site above for water quality info at the Marine Science Institute Pier.

I wouldn't say 20' but easily 12' at Packery.

Well...didn't get to go today. Next shot will be the Monday after Shrimp-o-ree JUne 12-14. I'm going to tow my little sloop down and sail anyway. If water viz is bad I'll H & L. Anyone hitting the water, specifically jetties at Port A, let me know of conditions.

Here's a surfcam that shows the water at the Horace Caldwell Pier just south of the Port A jetties. The jetties can be seen in the background.

Re: Port A conditions????

looks like the vis should be good this weekend. Guess I'll be sailing if the wind kicks up otherwise it's Jetty time.

Many thanks for the sites. Yall come down to Shrimp-o-ree at aransas Pass June 12-14! I'll be presenting recipes (and samples) at the big red & white H-E-B Culinary Experience Tent. I may even try my hand at ice carving. BTW they do serve beer as well as food.

Re: Port A conditions????

This site has changed and the SHip Channel appears to no longer be live data. Shucks all I wanted was turbidity.

Re: Port A conditions????

I just went to the site and "problem with server". However I was there Sat. & Sunday at high tides and viz was poor at best, maybe 6 feet.
