Burliest gloves?
I'm looking for recommendations for the toughest, most abrasion resistant gloves available. I've already got some dyneema gloves but I'd like something a little warmer for here in Oregon. I would prefer 5mm, but 3mm would work as well. If they came in XXL that would be great too.
Well, whaddaya got? Last edited by rootsman; 12-29-2015 at 07:28 AM. |

Re: Burliest gloves?
Might have to give these a try myself. I really tear up the Yazbecks in the winter on shellfish duty out here.

Re: Burliest gloves?
Those gloves are pretty much similar or the same as the ones that I've had for the last 20 years, if you look at this link there Kevlar is called Dino hide pretty much the same.
http://www.harveys-divesuits.com/products/accesories/ They are great for the warmth that you get here in these cold waters, and being a thicker neoprene easy to use for spearfishing. So I recommend getting them technology is been around probably over 20 years for these types of wetsuit gloves.

Re: Burliest gloves?
I picked up a pair of the Mako gloves last spring. They lasted for 10 or so outings before the exposed stitching wore through and the seams on the fingers separated. It seems like external stitching is an inherent failure point, no matter how tough the fabric that the seams hold together.
Has anyone found gloves with internal stitching on the seams? Last edited by rootsman; 12-30-2015 at 02:00 PM. |

But alas, it seems like the mako's will be a better alternate glove for those non-fishing collection days we have up here in the winter. |

Re: Burliest gloves?
Here are two great choices from Spear America. We have sold hundreds of these gloves the past few years:

Re: Burliest gloves?
I got a pair of Ullr gloves in the mail the other day. They've got rolled (internal) seams on the fingers, so that's a good start. The reinforced fabric on the palms has exposed stitching, but hopefully applying some seam sealer will protect them, or at least keep the stitches from running if a couple of loops do get abraded through. The only cons are that they are only 2 mil, and XXLs just barely fit. The coast is pretty hairy right now, but I might try to jump in the river soon to try them out.
Having gone through 3 pairs of gloves in the last two years, it sure seems like there is a great market opportunity for someone who can come up with a truly bomb-proof design. The Mako gloves would be a good candidate if they didn't have exposed stitching on the fingers. Last edited by rootsman; 01-17-2016 at 06:44 AM. Reason: clarity |

Of course I do my best to ensure customer satisfaction, but in this case, I felt that there was room for improvement. I'm happy to announce that our Kevlar cold water gloves have been modified to include a layer of latex rubber over all the sewn seams. This significant improvement will provide maximum protection of the sewn seams, will prevent (or greatly reduce) any unraveling of the sewn seam when the thread has been cut and will also provide an added layer to ensure imperviousness of the seam to water penetration. Any significant abrasions that compromise the latex AND sewn seam will be isolated by the latex and the thread will not "run" or pull out. This most recent upgrade is consistent with our continuing efforts to improve the quality and selection of the products we bring to market. Thanks Dano http://www.makospearguns.com/Califor...es-p/mckdg.htm
