Bob, how the kelp over at Catalina? West end? Parsons? Johnsons rock? Just curious as it has been dissappearing over the last couple of years...

    Bob,
You look like a guy who's been diving in California a long time. I'm reading a book and started to wonder who might like me to pass it onto. The title is "Diving Pioneers" by Eric Hanauer. If you have any interest please send me back your address and when I finish I'll drop it in the mail for you.

PS- I just recently met Eric who happens to live pretty close to me. I had no idea who he was at first.

    Hey Bob,
I've been on Spearboard long enough to consider you the resident advisor on Catalina. So I was hoping you can help me out with the best source of weather for the Island? Specifically I'll be camping at Two Harbors and trying to get some diving in around the Harbor or maybe over on the Cat. Harbor side while trying to avoid getting creamed by a boat. Thanks in advance and thanks for all the info you post on this site all the time, it's super helpful and inspiring to guys like me!

    Hey there Bob,
I am not sure if you have ever been down to Palapas Ventana before but I would like your opinion on the write-up I posted about my experience there this week. Would you mind reading it and sharing your thoughts about it with me on a PM response?
    Thanks Bob.

Thanks, it is a different diving world today with all the technology giving out instant reports...just trying to give free divers the same info as the hook and line guys who communicate far better than divers...

Just wanted to thank you for your informative reply to my specific question about depth finders. Also all the wisdom that you give in all your answers. I too am a relative older fellow, age 69, who loves to dive and hunt fishes. I only get out a few times a year. My adventures are now going to Baja and Catalina a few times a year. When I head to Catalina next, Mid July, I will be asking for advice on the likely haunts for Yellowtail. I do know about Farnsworth Bank and the Quarry. I appreciate all your sharing of knowledge. And you putting the idiots in their place. Thru Spearboard i have been to connect with a couple of great dive buddies.

    Thanks for all your knowledge.

Hey Bob! You look like a guy that knows the Catalina area based on some of your thread replies. My wife and I are staying at a friends Condo in Hamilton Cove April 22-26. I'd like to get out one of the days to dive and fish, specifically for some larger species. I have all the right spear gear and am a fairly accomplished freediver.

Can you connect me with someone that could point me in the right direction? Adam Olsen offered to take me on his boat for $100/hr and said I could bring buddies (making the cost more like $30/hr/person). I'm looking for worthy yak spots, charters, locals, etc. Anything that could help put me on some decent fish (YT, White Seabass, Calico, etc). Currently not wanting to go after halibut/sheepshead as I can get those here in Monterey where I live (Pacific Grove).

    Thank you for your help!

Thanks Bob! I'm still plugging away at my boat, trying to get it ready for the summer. Unfortunately, I'm spending all my time on it when there are days without rain. Might just have to play hookie on it and go chase em!
