Al Walker's "Big Kahuna Tournement

Al Walker, the guy that filmed Manny riding the Makos off the coast of Venice La. is putting on a Big Kahuna tournement for fishermen. All the proceeds are going to build playgrounds for children.

Al is also a scuba diver and doesn't want the divers to be left out, so he's asking me for suggestions and support.

For the fishermen it's going to be the biggest fish caught between January and the end of March. The winner will win something like $20,000.00.

For scuba divers it will also be the biggest fish speared, no matter what it is.

He's talking entry fee of like $20.00 a man. With a grand price in the thousands, he's also talking on getting the winner on a dive with him and Manny when they film the Discovery Channel episodes.

This will sure make the public perception of spearfishermen look a whole lot better.

I also would like this to be a worldwide event.

Here is a link to his newest film.

It ain't about who wins, it's about the kids.

Hi Louis, I fixed the title. I also went to the website and could not find the tournament. Do you have a direct link to the tournament info? Thanks, Tony

Al said the website would be up yesterday but he hasn't sent me the contact info, I'm going to email him and tell him to put it up here. I'm leaving for Tampa tomorrow.

Re: Al Walker's "Big Kahuna Tournement

I want to thank you guys for a geat response to my Tuna Kahna Rodeo and with the request of numerous divers i dont want you guys left out.

The goal of this rodeo is to get additional funding for a project called "Project Rebuild Plaquemines" that will be building six play grounds at ground zero of Katrina in Venice louisiana. We have raised enough funds to build four state of the art playgrounds for the kids and are working on fund drives to assist with the other two.Being a father and native to this area i am simply tired on waiting for the goverment because it is evident they are not coming. We are also attempting to tie into Brad Pitts "Make it right foundation" as housing is a serious issue in south east Louisiana right now.

The people of this area are unique hard working folks that make their living from the waters and are very proud of their culture.Simply put there is absolutely nothing for the kids to do.Most folks dont even know that Venice doesnt have any schools or a grocery store for that matter but that has not pushed these people out town because to them it is home.

What i have going is a rodeo and raffel that ends March 31,2008 called the Tuna Kahuna Fishing Rodeo. This is a hard core rodeo for serious anglers and already has a 234 Tuna on the board. Many spearos want to get involved and so far the vibe has been the biggest fish takes all simply on the honor system. It doesnt matter if it is scuba or skin or what state or country your from simply have a catch and weight witness, but what is the prize?

The other idea is to have a 20 dollar raffel for a two day spearing trip with me down in Venice this summer.Any month you want June,July or August is a go.I will provide lodging, food, boat, fuel and ice for two ten hour days in the gulf.I will pick four people that have bought a ticket in the raffel april 5{need not be in attendance} or if you and three buds buy a ticket and one of you win then you have the choice of diving with your bros as i will call that person on the phone at the moment of drawing his or her name and if you answer i will ask do you have any friends that entered and do you chose to dive with them?If not i think it would be cool to dive with three other spear junkies from different backgrounds. You actually can purchase a ticket for this trip now at tunakahunarodeo.com so no need to wait on that just give me some input on the big fish payout as i want the diving community to be involved in this awsome cause.

Re: Al Walker's "Big Kahuna Tournement

Sorry about the slow response to a few questions that were asked of me.It has been a couple rough weeks with the loss of dear ones.

On Tuna Kahuna Rodeo

In ressponse to Cuz

Yes sir if your boat is registered and you lend it out no problem as long as all anglers aboard have their 20 dollar stubs they are good. The other question was when you register a boat as owner do you have to buy the 20 dollar tickets the answer is no.

In response to Rob

Yes all private boats entering the contest must register for 200 per vessel and all anglers except boat owner must have tickets to claim winnings. All guides are elligable even if they did not register their boat so their customers if willing can purchase a 20 dollar ticket from the marina or online and claim prizes. The guides that do register their boat are entitled to 25% of all winnings.

The 20 dollar raffle is for a two day fishing{offshore/inshore} or diving trip with myself this summer. The winner can choose any two days he or she wants in June,July or August.

In Response to Jesse

The leading fish this month so far is 71 pounds caught by Steven Miles of LaPlace.

In response to SightSeerer

I use Seeker rods and would get into more on that but heading out the door to a funeral.I will follow up on tuesday sir,or be sure to watch"How It's Made"on Discovery next month as we travel to Seeker Rod corp.I will get with the producer on the date.Buy Seeker Rods you wont be disappointed.

Last but not least i want to thank all the contractors for their intrest in "Project Rebuild Plaquemines"simply put amazing response! We have hired our contractor for the playgrounds and are now looking for a surveyor.

God Bless

Xtreme
