Here's some history. The Spear Wars Blue Storm Tournament Series started in 2008 with three events - the classic Spearboard Open (SBO), the Palm Beach Open (PBO) and the Key Largo Open (KLO). The Spearboard Open (”SBO”) was for many years one of the largest aggregate spearfishing tournaments in the world. The classic SBO rules were applied to the three Blue Storm tournaments around the state of Florida.

This year we are again combining the prize treasure chests of the traditional three tournament Blue Storm series into one massive event in one location at the Riviera Beach Marina which is the excellent former Palm Beach Open venue.

For 2013, We have kept the reduced registration price at $85 which includes
the fabulous buffet food and drinks at the Awards Ceremony right after the Weigh-in.

In prior BBOs the cost of the T-shirts in all the sizes and colors required was killing us. So again this year instead of T-Shirts, we will include one Spearboard Sun Shade Cap with a removable ear and neck protection shade. Supplies are limited.

The SPEARBOARD RAW FOOTAGE VIDEO CONTEST

On a purely voluntary basis, you may decide to enter the Spearboard Raw Footage Video Contest by submitting media clips of raw footage shot in high definition either underwater or topside of your activities during the Big Bang Open. If this contest goes well, we plan to extend it across all Spearboard geographical regions in other ways.

Here are the official rules for the 2013 Big Bang Open. There is a PDF version attached of the Complete Registration Package to make it easy if you wish to print the rules out. The tournament has strived from its inception to provide as much of a level playing field as possible for all regions in which contestants are shooting.

Captain Billy Black will be the MC again and the contestants who weigh in a fish will get prizes.

As in past years, we will have the Shark scientists collecting cuda and jack donations as well as Lucas Metropulos, President and Founder, of Fishing for Families in Need for food donations.

We are also going to have or long time friend scientist Angela Collins from Fish and Wildlife Research Institute at Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission taking samples of east coast hogfish. Some of you may remember her from the old Spearboard Open Tournaments in 2007 on the west coast. the collection technique will be much less invasive this year she tells me.

The claim is real Charlie. I will be announcing some big prizes in the upcoming days as we get closer to the event. Stay tuned and pay attention. You should come and shoot the BBO to see for yourself.

An old FL west coast friend named Bret used to say that you can tell the quality of a tournament prize table (or in our case "prize wall") by the number of spearguns present - we do very well in that department.

I'm out of town for a wedding that weekend or I would.

I thought the 'in the universe' part was sarcasm. I assumed that the tournament with the most shooters would have the best prize table, assuming one prize per shooter.

Sounds like a great venue for the event.
