Announcing the 2014 Spear Wars Big Bang Open DRAFT and then FINAL Rules

Here attached as a PDF below are the draft rules for the 2014 BBO. There are just a few changes our weighmaster Randy Docks, Emcee Billy Black and I are seeking feedback on as follows:

1.) No Captain's Meeting

2.) Half hour roll back of start and end times for the weigh-in on Sunday

3.) Inclusion of Red Snapper for East Coast Registered Shooters in the Wild Card Category ONLY.

Assuming no significant objections by the end of this week, these draft rules will become the final rules that I will post up again.

This tournament is all about strategy. With two days of shooting and a long stretch of East coast to hunt, try maximizing every other category to the 20 points per fish and you will probably score high enough to win at least a speargun. Chad Palan took first place a few years ago free diving. By the way, the last place person last year won a speargun. Check the archive photos here:

No I know, I participated in the tournament last year I made out pretty well diving out of Jupiter.

Before any west coast guys or girls comment on the red snapper rule, let me explain our weigh master Randy's thinking. We like the fact reds are open and people want to harvest them for food that weekend.

The red snapper being placed in the wild card category is intended to avoid excess advantage to the east coast over the west coast.

Either coast shooters can also get up to 20 wild card category points with barracuda and other fish as long as total individual possession bag limits are not exceeded.

Just out of curiosity... I am planning on entering but I wanted to see if y'all had thought about partnering up with a local charity or soup kitchen type deal? I would love to be able to donate some of my fish to them to help feed people who need it.

We usually partner with the charity "Fishing for Families" run by Lucas Metropulos for the soup kitchen-type charity for the edible fish as well as we have been donating the barracuda and jacks to the Bimini Shark Lab for their research.

I have already reached out to Lucas last week and hope he will be able to do the charity work this year. I have already confirmed that the Shark Lab people will be there.
