Open Cell wetsuit temps recommendation
Anyone got some insight of wetsuit thickness for early season tog fishing. I’m looking at Makos open cell wetsuits and not sure if I should go 7mm or 5mm. I’ve heard 5 mm will be enough on some sites but on others they recommend 7mm. Looking to get some decent year round use from it. I don’t wanna buy a 7mm if I absolutely don’t need it but I also wanna spearfish in 50 degree waters come early tog season/late fall.

Once you need a 7mm for any considerable amount of time, the tog will be gone. 5mm will have you in the water from mid-April to November.

Also, if you are freediving, a 7 mm requires a lot of lead and you will be very heavy after all that suit compresses. If the water is super cold, you have no choice, but to use a 7 mm
I love my 5 mm MAKO suit.

Re: Open Cell wetsuit temps recommendation
I think this question is very person specific. I have friends that wear a 10 mm wetsuit when I am wearing my 7 mm. I started diving April 4th wearing my 7. Once I get too warm in my 7 I progress to my 5 mm. During this warmer months I use a 3 mm. Sometimes I mix and match like 5 top and 3 mm pants.
