Good day in Palm Beach
Spearing down in Palm Beach for the first time and had a great day. Sneaking up on a 25lb Black Grouper behind a rock I got within 4 feet of his head... go to shoot and the safety was on!! The click scared him off, maybe tomorrow.
Tagged a nice Jack which turned to be a great fight. The meat was donated to a local mission... well appreciated. Looking for a few guys to go spearing with. Drop me a line. |

Re: Good day in Palm Beach
Wow - Big JACK! One of these days I gotta get my yak down south a bit farther than FP.
I had some Crevalle RAW today - Sliced real thin and marinated with some soy sauce, salt, pepper, garlic, a little squeeze of lemon and squirt of sriacha. Went nice with some Lo Mein and veggies! I was thinking this could be some $30 a (little tiny) plate stuff at a Japanese sushi joint! It was THAT good! Got one about 10 times smaller than yours yesterday! |

Re: Good day in Palm Beach
Really!!! That's a brave dish to eat. I'm always up for trying anything and it actually sounds pretty good. I know the guys who took the jack off my hands were extremely appreciative of the meat to feed their kids. At least it didn't go to waist.
PM me when you are coming down this way and I'll take you on the tour! I saw between 120-150 tarpon around 80lbs-150 Monsters. There were 3 schools of jacks, each close to 500 fish strong some even 2 feet larger than mine. Most people were estimating my fish at 45-50lbs, I thought it was only 40lbs. Hard to believe there are fish two feet larger down there. |

Re: Good day in Palm Beach
Crevalle is awesome smoked.
Bleed the fish once caught. Cut up the filet. Remove the blood line. Marinate the filet in soy, rice wine vinegar, garlic chili paste, ginger and cut with water until it is at the saltiness you prefer. Let marinate for 4 hours. High heat smoke for 30 minutes. I do mine over hickory smoke and you can do it in a Weber. You don't need a conventional smoker to do this. Makes what everyone calls a trash fish into a treat. By the way great fish I popped 2 the other day that maight have added up to yours! Enjoy. |
