Wingshooting
I know we have a number of rabid upland and waterfowl shooters on the board. I thought we should have our own thread.
This is from Sunday afternoon. A mixed bag limit- five huns and three sharp tails. I scored 5 for 6 on the partridge. If I had been paying attention instead of shooting behind them I might have gone 5 for 4. I emptied both barrels on a miss for a long crosser on the grouse, and had to shoot one twice after it got off the ground again. 4 of 6. It was very unseasonably warm, and I almost killed my dog. She's getting old. This is a really nice area to hunt. I would have taken more pics, but I was busy getting my dog to water. Last edited by mepps1; 10-05-2010 at 11:10 PM. |

Re: Wingshooting
We head up to the Bighorns for Labor Day weekend every year. We chase blue grouse up mountain and down the next. And piss off bow hunters (not on purpose though, and not all that often). Pics from last year;

This is my little crippled girl. She was run over as a pup and the back leg is permanently stiff. She took about four years to decide she wanted to be a hunter. This is her third season and she is starting to act like a quack ho!

About 2000 or so in Arky with one of my old Army buds. Scotty, the lab had to be put down in June at the ripe old age of 15. He had a great nose on him! I'm in the green.

BTW...my new members of the tribe as of last March. Poncho and Willie. Alissa disciplines them by making them sit in the corner. Seriously.
Anyway,seriously diggin' the Airedales. Soon to find out how versatile they are, but lovin' what I am seeing as of yet.Never had a more "owner devoted" dog.And that's saying something.Meg, the yellow Lab pup , is going to be one hell of a water dog. |

Re: Wingshooting
Nice pictures, nice looking labs. California used to have some of the best dove, duck and pheasnt hunting. Then came the computer and dot com booms and everything got plowed under.
Man do i miss that dove and pheasnt hunting. |

Re: Wingshooting
Psssttt...look South and look way North. It's there.FWIW, Cali is one of the few States I'd look at as far as moving to for bird hunting opp.'s at retirement age.

I live in Socal and we have incredible dove hunting down here as well as some damn good duck and upland game hunting. The duck and goose hunting in the central valley is one of the top places to hunt in the country as is the pheasant hunting. There is still plenty of places and great wing shooting to be had in california.

This post is meaningless without pictures. We all know California is a sterile wasteland of empty strip malls and repossessed houses. |
