Heads UP: Missing Boater off Carpenteria: 12/9/21 1
The Coast Guard is looking for a missing boater after a 35' boat was found running in circles. Fishing gear was on board. No sign of the person at this time. Likely he will drift south if still afloat based on current swell direction...

Falling off a boat is more common that people think. I hope he is recovered safe.

The lesson here, assuming the usual happened....taking a pee over the side and getting thrown overboard...Numerous fatalities due to this....old timers say...."Pee in a bottle or bucket or just pee on deck if solo...It washes off....and, don't go on deck alone without letting someone know, if you have companions on board....simple, common sense procedures all too often overlooked....

Re: Heads UP: Missing Boater off Carpenteria: 12/9/21 1
Saturday Update: The CG has called off the search for a 62 year-old Asian commercial fisherman after searching over 600 miles of ocean. He was the owner of a commercial fishing boat who sold his catch in local markets.
...His fishing net was partially deployed, probably a sign he was caught on something and pulled overboard. ...In other news, Catalina island Sheriff's Rescue responded to a boat on the rocks at Toyon bay. On arrival, they found a man deceased on board. No further info at present. Last edited by Bob Ballew; 12-14-2021 at 03:08 AM. |

A tough job in a tough environment. RIP
No doubt xiden will blame it on klimate change - the guy could have waded to shore except for the sea level rise. The CDC will tally it as no-vax covid Nuisance will get another vote or three
