Monster lobster

Hey guys, I wanted to share a bug I caught earlier this week with you all!

Out late Monday night, especially this late in the season, my buddy Dirks and I weren't expecting to catch too many bugs. After 2 hours in the water we each had a few in our bags but nothing too big. Dirks called me over to show me a huge horn shark that he found under a ledge, and on the way over I found this guy sitting under some kelp on a ledge.

Composed myself, went down for the double handed catch and fought this bug to the surface! Never thought I would have to bear-hug a lobster before!! With Driks help, we managed to get the thing bagged and then decided to call it a night.

Weighing in at a total of 12LB 7 Ounces and 2ft long (not measuring with its antennas, 40in) this might be close to some sort of a record? I know that Driks caught a 15LB 9 Ounce one at the beginning of the season but I was curious if you guys knew what the record was for free diving for lobsters in SoCal? Thanks!

Re: Monster lobster

That's a big bug but 12.7? Did you get a certified weight on that?

Re: Monster lobster

Didnt get it certified, I didn't care too much. I did have it weighed using two different scales to make sure it was correct though.

Looks like 16 pounds 1 ounce. I've read a DFG PDF that said 26 pounds is the largest on record. Not sure of that's commercial or not.

SICK bug
