Deep Wrecks Sebastian

Panning a trip to Sebastian to do some wreck diving .
Staying at the Vero Beach Kamp(great place with pool and all the goodies)
Anyone have any decent #'s to a few deep wrecks.
There is a new dive shop in town ,Liquid Addiction but they mostly freedive and take scuba divers out of Fort Pierce. They are planning on getting a charter boat going soon out of Sebastian.
I just got back from there for the 4th, great town with fun night life.
I didn't go diving just chilling and checking the place out with the wife and dogs.I heard they had a cold up welling ,52 degrees, the pool was much nicer.
Thanks

What a post.
We have zero night life
No one went out over the fourth-no upwelling
Very few deep wreaks here-only one that is public in 135'
You sure you were in this town?

Re: Deep Wrecks Sebastian

With all due respect to the negative posters on this thread, I did some of my best diving out of Sebastian inlet.

I don't know of any wrecks, but the area to the S of the inlet is covered in natural bottom from the surf line on out.

If memory serves, there's a marked area about 12 miles just S of E that's great for grouper, snapper and bugs.

I lived in Satellite Beach 1983-87 and have some of my fondest memories of diving SI.

That said: the inlet can be HAIRY if conditions are wrong.

Wish you luck and please PM or post a trip report.

Prop Job

Best to wait till SFWD stops dumping 1 billion gallons per day out of the inlet

Storm for this week end and more rain any way.

Lots of natural bottom there in some areas, just watch your machine for a fish and jump in and scooter the location. That means go on a calm day when the surface is flat. Use a bathometric over lay chart to get you onto a general area. Look for the fish when you are in the general area and don't be in a rush to jump in. Let your sounder look over the bottom. You want to mark Tomtates not Sea Bass. Find them and you will shoot some nice fish.

I used to catch a lot of pompano up there in the winter around December and when it would blow I would dive grouper. Very different bottom form Palm Beach. Fish were easy to shoot. Bottom lacks the biodiversity that our waters to the south have.

Re: Deep Wrecks Sebastian

If you want numbers, get a copy of the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FLORIDA SHIPWRECKS. There are some deep wrecks such as the Fuggedaboudit Wreck off Sebastian listed in the back, as well as over 1,000 more coordinates along the Florida east coast.

I second that - this book is a most excellent resource.

I dive out of Sebastian and if you consider 10 ft of vis most of the year good then I guess it's great. We have had horrible vis since grouper season opened and it's not looking like its getting any better.

That's what I heard , 20' foot is kinda the norm , 30 to 40 is a good day.
Il take 10' with lots of fish any day.
Have you dove that we-4 wreck, heard it holds some large flounder.
Also the wreck in 130 is nice.

the wee 4 isnt very deep at all. its inside of 90 and not much left of it. doesnt really hold fish much anymore either. havent heard of the aj wreck but that could be the barbra ann which is in 130. it has jacks on it from time to time.
