east vs west north vs south

howdy everyone,
I am sorry to confess I am yet another Canadian from Montreal looking to relocated part time to Florida.

I've been camera shy so don't have much to show but I dive fairly well, comfortable in 80 feet with 10 foot visibility. Personal best a little past 110feet. I usually dive Rhode Island or simply the St-lawrence where we mainly hand catch sturgeons (on the fringe of legality so not many videos)

I want to buy a place close to the ocean in Florida, get myself a boat and spear every other weekend from November to June. Iím looking anywhere in the state however given that I got run over by a boat in ft Lauderdale I am leaning towards anywhere minus Ft Lauderdale-Miami area. (A boat trashed my kayak at the third reef off of Ft Lauderdale while I was diving and didnít even stop, I swam back)

Do you guys have any suggestions/opinion given this info? I think south of fort Meyers looks pretty nice with the potential for cobia and wahoos as well as wreck dives. Would that be a good choice?

I thank anyone for the input,
slim

This map oughta help. Tampa, Jacksonville or Miami..

Just about anywhere is good fishing. South Florida is not as fishy but they have way more bugs and good viz. Central/North Gulf Coast very few bugs, more fish, mediocre viz, long rides to find clean water. Southern Gulf about the same viz, not as much structure, more bugs. Pros and cons. Real estate is crazy here. Don't vote like a dummy. That's all I got.

Haha, good map thanks. No worries Being Canadian I can only vote for lame politicians who just tend to follow what the us does.
I'm just curious if people are happy with where they are or is it a case of the grass is greener.

I would live no where else in the world. Even if I was a billionaire, I would live in Florida. I am never leaving. Love it here.

Shut your pie hole, traitor!

On a serious note, there's nothing wrong with the area S of Ft. Myers.

Visibility is a big problem south of Ft. Myers. Lake Okeechobee discharges down the Caloosahatchee River often render the gulf undiveable for many miles offshore in this area. I'd stay north of Ft. Myers if you're set on the Gulf of Mexico. Personally, if employment weren't an issue and quality spearfishing were paramount, I'd be in Stuart / Ft. Pierce area.

Best of luck, I'm sure you'll love FL.
