How's Mini season in the keys?
Is it just as crazy every year? Good hunting to all those during lobster mania. Have a neighbor going the start of regular season on their annual lobster quest.

Re: How's Mini season in the keys?
Did pretty well in Miami. Was tough on Wed with rough seas and challenging viz. managed 9 on four tank dive. Conditions were much better today. Got my 12 with 4 on tank one and 8 on tank two on a beautiful long drift dive. Happy with that for my second time lobstering and first ever mini season. Wednesday was really a day for advanced divers. Rough, ripping current, low viz. some people didn't come back for afternoon dive. And some didn't come back on Th that did the dives on Wed.

Re: How's Mini season in the keys?
Looks like LEO was very busy in the keys those 2 days according to the Keys Weekly. The sheriff's office checked over 600 boats. 4 people cleaning lobster at Sun Outdoors RV Resort got arrested while cleaning lobster on the cleaning table. FWC officer walked up to the table during a routine check. The 4 had 37 lobster which is 13 over bag limit on the table. 24 were shorts. Then, he found more they had caught earlier that day to bring the short count up to 27. Off to Monroe County jail the 2 men and 2 women went to be charged. Upper keys a boat well had 30 lobsters with 12 of them grossly undersized. The 3 men will be back in August before the judge. Catching under sized lobster is a misdemeanor. This day and age with more people not respecting laws. I'm sure LEO is still catching up on mini season citation paperwork.

Re: How's Mini season in the keys?
My neighbor came back and didn't due too well the first open week in Marathon. Seems that most of the spots had already been picked over. Another friend in that area did fairly well. I have another down there this week. Most spots are bare or housing shorts. They all have been bayside. I know you have to put in the time to be successful. Yet, some years the lobster are more abundant than other years. Comments?

Re: How's Mini season in the keys?
I was down in Little Torch and had a lot of fun lobstering and Spearfishing. Was only my second time lobstering in the Keys. And only time dealing with fast moving current. So the novelty was fun for me. We would always get a few here and there. Got my limit my last day on Saturday out front Ocean side snorkeling in 5-8' of water. Other best day for me was 4. Lot of shorts. Only a few found with eggs. Took about 2.5 hours for me to get those 6. We got between 25-30 total over the course of the week I figure.

Re: How's Mini season in the keys?
We were down for open of regular season in Marathon. Our total count for the week was 162. We only limited the last two days when we were down to 4 or 5 people. Wind all week made some areas that we like tough with waves and visibility. What we've found over the years is the areas where we do well are typically the same as the year before. It takes enough eyeballs and days to figure out the most productive area. By the end of the week I think we figured it out - and the wind stopped as we were headed home.

Re: How's Mini season in the keys?
We dove both the mini-season and the 1st three days of the regular season. The wind conditions were awful, but the bugs were plentiful and running larger than usual. Each day, except the last, we got 5 person limits. We were 4 shy of a 5 person limit on the last day, due to time constraints. We had only 2 hours of water time, before heading home. Usually, we do quite a bit of spearfishing on the Atlantic side. However, due to wind conditions, we did none. I know several that dove out of Marathon and they were not as productive. In fact, they did terrible. I'm not sure why the one picture is upside down?
