Freediver Death - Keys - 16th May 2024
Hi Again.
Two Freediver death in two weeks! Not a good record for Florida - Andrew Velo (55) reported recovered unresponsive last Thursday in the Keys. Virgil Price (39) the week before. That's really all I know i.e. names and ages! As far as I know, there have been very little reported detail about these two incidents. Is this just a sign of poor SB attendance? Are these reported in depth somewhere else? Hopefully so. All I really watch at the moment is SB. Some other place to monitor the sport? Is there still a pertinent monthly/quarterly spearfishing magazine available? Details of these incidents need to be spread in the Freediver community. Newbies to the sport need to be aware of how dangerous our sport is, and what common sense precautions need to be taken. Thanks and be safe out there. Mike. |

Hallo Mike, Facebook groups are the main source of info, nowadays, Spearboard is, unfortunately, neglected.

Thanks Sacha,
I hear your advice, but still debating whether to go to Facebook or not. So far managed to evade the switch. Regards, Mike. |

Not even Facebook now. Kids don't use it anymore. Instagram is what they see.

All my spearfishing facebook groups are dead, instagram allows you to follow peoples photos very little discussion? I dont have tik tok or any other social media and refuse too. Youtube is probably the most reliable way to find out any useful info on whats happening in the spearfishing world and its still poor compared to what this site once was. |
