Built my 1st gun

I've learned so much from all the guys that post information on building spearguns here. Just want to say thanks for all the great information and inspiration. I started this back in January when I made the blank out of reclaimed teak from the USS North Carolina. While I was waiting for the blank to do it's thing I practiced on 2X4's doing all the things like the handle recess, mech pocket etc... Videos from Gil and Neptonics helped a lot. Anyway here's some photo's. I think getting good photo's might be one of the hardest parts!

Nice and clean! Did you apply an oil finish?

Really beautiful! That's some really nice teak, and you finished it up beautifully. Great job! What is the finish?

Great job on the gun. It has a nice rounded look.

The wishbones look quite long.

Re: Built my 1st gun

I used Teak Oil for the finish and yes, the wishbones are a little on the long side, I think I should have made the bands a touch longer.

I only see one thing wrong. Your work area is too clean!

Great work!

Really nice.. gives me inspiration... clean, simple, sexy.... would like to know how you did the recess on the side of the blank for the bands.. ie what tool, sander you used to make it even?

Really nice work!!

Really sharp for a first build. Of course, you've set the bar high for yourself. It will be hard to make improvements on your next gun.

Really nice work!!

Total inspiration from Ulusub on the recesses. I did most of that by hand with a half round rasp. Once I had a good groove going I used a Foredom rotary tool with a flame shaped rotary rasp to get a little more depth (those things chew through wood like a termite but they can be tough to control so you have to be careful). Then I went back to the half round rasp to fine tune. Finished up with sandpaper.

Re: Built my 1st gun

Your gun turned out super clean!
Looks like you hid all the holes in the lams.
That teak sure is purdy!

Beautifully done, and already with history! I like the handle scales.
