Cabo Spearfishing?

Anyone ever been down there? I'm heading down and I seem to recall someone having a bad time with a guide. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Here is the thread.

I looked into guides for southern Baja last winter and found Indigo adventures, pistoleros Del Mar, palapas ventana, and maybe a couple others as well known and respected guides. I talked with some and all communication was professional and confidence inspiring. Didn't make it out with any of them but hopefully will in the future.

Unless I am with a sizable group of experienced spearos I will only go out with experienced, well reviewed guides to go spearing. Years ago I had a bad experience on a panga for surfing just picked up off the beach where the captain was snorting cocaine and drinking beer all day. He nearly ran someone over and couldn't remember how many people started the day.

I enjoy going to a new place and trying to figure things out on my own for shore dives and locations even if it means I get a big trigger fish as my best trophy. If you want the best possible conditions and the biggest fish pay up and go with the best guide. My two cents...

Have fun and let us know of any great catches.

PS-taking your freshly speared fish to a local restaurant to be prepared can be a nice and surprisingly cheap option depending on your kitchen resources or energy.

Re: Cabo Spearfishing?

Here is a facebook page to a company who seems to have it together. I live here in Baja sur and spear here. Down near Cabo spearfishing is still not looked at in a favorable light but company's like this are helping with education. (Education meaning sustainability and tourism.)

Re: Cabo Spearfishing?

I'd recommend Colin (Indigo). Put us on a ton of Wahoo and YT out of Bahia de los Muertos.
