San Carlos Yellowtail Open
Guys and 1 Gal that joined us last year, and were asking.
The information on the 2010 San Carlos Yellowtail Open, is now up on the web site, sorry for the delay. http://www.yellowtailopen.com/ Those diving on El Duque last year, your spot for 2010 will be held on the boat until Jan 1. If we've not heard from you by then, will assume you're not able to make it. The Piesquita boat has been booked by JBL, contact Guy Skinner if interested. Hope you're able to make it, let me know if you have any questions, contact info is on the site. Happy Holidays! Seamus |

Re: San Carlos Yellowtail Open
if you sign up too late to get on the El Duque, look into getting some friends together and renting a condo and getting some boats chartered, it was really decently priced last year. Gotta admit though, the guys on the Duque slayed em and we didn't even see a yellowtail the whole trip.

Re: San Carlos Yellowtail Open
That's very far. How long would the drive be from San Diego?

Re: San Carlos Yellowtail Open
Heading down is not too bad, take you 6 hours to Tucson along the 8, then another 6 down to San Carlos from Tucson along the 19, then 15 toll road in MX.
That's at a comfortable pace and the road is a 4 lane divided HWY all the way, so not too many white knuckling moments. However, coming back can be tough, as you have the border wait to tack on to the time and the fatigue from diving a couple of days. If you've not checked out the mainland side of the Sea Of Cortez, it's well worth the trip, but the drive is not for everyone. You can fly into Guaymas (10 mins away) or Hermossillo (90 Mins away), but from the US, it is a rip off! However, from TJ it's quite reasonable and can be cheap if you catch it right with the airlines. Regards Seamus |

Re: San Carlos Yellowtail Open
I was just there a couple of weeks ago...Man let me tell you! Thats one fricken long drive, especially towing a boat back
Isla San Pedro where you dive is a nice island, but the amount of seals there and heckling you get is like nothing I have EVER experienced. Its a good place to go though to learn to relax for deeper dives since you will constantly be bombarded by angry sea lions! They are down right hostile! If you go dont forget to bring fly repellent for the island and mozzie coils for san carlos. On our last night we slept on the boat at the launch ramp and left the hatch open. My arms looked like I had chicken pox a couple days later. |
