50" Wong Roller

Just kinda showing off the new toy. Lookpointshoot made me a little jelly of his 110 roller in baja, so i decided why not a 50" wong roller....Since everyone seems to be jumping off the wong wagon.

Thread to the roller and soon to be rear + modification
http://spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=189014

See if i can get a better photo this week.
Plan is a 16mm band but will dial it in as i go. Who knows, maybe i can pull an 18mm (doubt it)

Re: 50" Wong Roller

Leo, i dont expect to get more range, but rather a straighter shot and less recoil.

A straight 18mm band is not likely to work at all, even with loading tabs. I tried a 19mm on my 115cm rollergun, and couldn't even come close. For reference: I weight about 245, and can do 12+ dead hang chin-ups on a good day.

However, if you're feeling experimental, you might try buying a Beuchat Marlin Revolution roller band kit for a gun of approximately that length. It consists of two 16mm bands linked by an connective device to a single 20mm band. The 16's are on the bottom of the gun, the 20mm up top. You load them one at a time. By some accounts, it basically confers all the power of a 3 band gun to your roller setup, and maybe even more per cm of gun barrel. Their 120cm kit should do the trick for your 50 inch gun, even if a little tight. Once you get the connector device, though, you can cut and make slings to the length of your preference. You can buy the kit here, probably have to call in to specify length. Hope that helps!

Can you explain how this would be better than say a 16mm band with preload? Looks interesting an im sure its something i could throw together if it makes sense.

Re: 50" Wong Roller

Have fun monkeying around with that thing.

I would recommend you just buy a gun that works but what do I know....

I think it's fairly simple. Instead of a single 16mm band for power in a single power transfer, you get the power conferred by 19mm+2x16mm in two separate but seamless stages of thrust. I don't know exactly what the stretch ratios are, but it seems clear enough that Beuchat didn't just decide to mass produce guns configured with this setup because it looks cool.

Here's what they claim, on their guns at least -- (I can't imagine it would be so different on yours):

> Spear speed at muzzle: 46m/s
> Total power developed: 460 joules
> Propulsion force: 62kg at start of thrust, 22kg at end of thrust

More info here:

http://www.beuchat-diving.com/en/pro...in-revolution/

Those are impressive numbers. I would be surprised if it didn't significantly surpass the power you'd get with a typical 3 band setup of the same length. You're not going to save on loading time, though; it is essentially a three band gun with the benefit of roller gun stretch length.

Nice fish dude.

I don't hate Wongs, just experimental rollers.
