The Moose was Loose

Took HeadHunter out for two days before the commercial grouper closure went into effect on 2-15-05. Along were KMoose,Simply Scuba, Spear Ten, Bucket and myself. Worked deep water for a day and The Grounds for a half day. The Moose and I had attended Spear Ones seminar on Saturday for a couple of hours and I kidded him on the way out that he should be the slinger of the trip, since he was writing down everything Kevin said! In all seriousness, I was amazed at the wealth of good solid information that can be learned at one of those seminars. I found myself wishing we could have stayed longer, but we had a boat to put in the water....

Well, the new info obviously didn't hurt, as heres the Moose with the 2 best fish of the trip. I good naturely kidded him that if Kevin ever teaches an advanced spearfishing seminar, that he's forbidden to go as he's already making the rest of us look bad!

The first fish is a 71 Lb Cubera stoned with a free shaft and the second fish is a 52 Lb Carbo that was also stoned with a free shaft. The carbo was shot from behind, the spear entered the gills on a slight upward angle, penetrated the roof of it's mouth and into the brain. Amazing (lucky?) shot!!

Surely you guys must shoot a small fish every great once on a while. How about posting a few of those so we don't all feel so bad about ourselves!

Re: The Moose was Loose

Goodness gracious Moose, those are a couple of outrageous fish. No more sittin' in the audience at the seminars for you. From now on I'm gonna give you the microphone and I'm gonna be sittin' in the back takin' notes. Ha!

Hope you guys didn't get roughed up too bad on Monday cause it blew pretty good all day here in St. Pete. I really appreciate you and Dan drivin' all the way to Bradenton on Saturday. There was barely a whisper of wind all day so I am sure you sacrificed a great day on the water to be there. I sure hope you guys still managed to get a belly full of fish in spite of the late start.

Sweet! How did that happen? Shot in midwater or above you on the high side of the ledge maybe? Again beautiful fish!

Re: The Moose was Loose

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself. That "up angle through the gill plate stone shot" is a new one on me. Details...........?
