I have been free diving many times at night, but only to 40ft and less. You are very talented.

Congratulations for landing a very special fish.

Sweet post. Diving into the darkness with that much chum is deserving of that beauty fish.

John, I have appreciated everybody's positive remarks but coming from such an esteemed member of the forum as yourself is extra special. I have dove for years with Peter Correale and I have always admired his quiver of Ulusub guns. Hope I don't stir up a hornet's nest but call me old school, I truly love the lines and beauty of a wooden gun. I have used the forum for two things, viz reports and building guns and have read countless ideas and theories of yours when I built my gun Medusa. Never had told you but Thanks back at ya.

Makes me feel good to see products I made in that video. Thanks. So the question is what about the Sharks? Up here we get a Night Bite of Yellowfin tuna. The water is Clear. But you guys take it a few steps further than jumping into the Hydroglows. Do you think the sharks are put off by the headlamps and such? The unnerving thing for me is that we often get circled and harassed all night long by Hammerheads to the point that when we want to boat a fish with RR, we toss a head overboard to have them follow it down. That being said, I'm definitely interested in jumping in next time the hydroglows fill with darting 100lb Yellowfin.

I will give you some background on the reason we tried it this way. Captain Glen Gee aboard the boat Buggin Out has been RR fishing this area for years winning multiple tournaments since 2001. He pulled two cubera out of there in August and got TRUCKED by multiple more that night. Most of the big bites came between 4am and sunrise. We set up the lights around 4 am, started minimally chumming and waited till 5 am. Right at 5 am Glen on the boat next too us got hit by something massive, it doubled over their biggest rod and started heading for cover. When the leader broke, the recoil was so violent that it snapped the rod and impaled the bag of Glen's hand. It sounded like a shotgun going off. We had big Hammerheads swimming around boat so we lowered chum bucket to 100 feet. Right before we dove we max chummed and brought bucket to 60 feet. We would dive down to chum bucket then drift down with the chum. Not sure if lights kept sharks away, could be a good theory.

Lots of logistics there. You really deserved that fish.

I bet Glen was green w/ envy. Went to school with that guy. Have you been in this area long?

Bayshore High-school Class of 1984 Family moved to Bradentucky in 1969. Back when it was truly a ZOO. Known Glen about 15 years.
Was he a little jealous? Possibly, but then he was equally as stoked for me as well. If it wasn't for him putting me on the fish I would have never got it. He is a great captain, knows his KAKA.
